Design Principals

Im interested in studying key design principals and designers who adopt these principals and designers that don’t.

Key Principals:

COLOUR – SHAPE – FORM

NEGATIVE SPACE – WHITE SPACE

GOLDEN GEOMOTARY IN DESIGN / GOLDEN SECTION

The psychology of shapes – How are shapes interpreted e.g what does a circle mean ? How do cultural backgrounds interpret shapes and colours differently and how does this apply to western design?

Design using grids – why use a grid, who use grids and who don’t? Wim Crouwel nicknamed ‘Grid nik’ produced beautifully crafted design  based on often very intricate grid systems. This type of design was associated with the Swiss school of design which came about during the 1950’s post war period. The font Helvetica also came of of this period.
